Today is the Day

Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away.

Hello Portland?

Jason and I are in the beginning stages of planning our next trip... didn't I just say I wanted to stay home for awhile?

We are tossing around the idea of Portland. With so many of the low cost carriers flying there now we are able to find some pretty reasonable airfare (whereas most places are out of control right now with the effects high fuel prices).

So I toss it out there, anyone have any Portland recommendations? I'm hoping that a few of those who read this have some thoughts, comments, suggestions...

Coming Soon to a Sidewalk Near You

Remember as a little kid getting a brand new fresh bucket of sidewalk chalk at the beginning of the summer? Those colorful sticks provided hours of entertainment and left your parents and neighbors with a dusty piece of artwork that left them praying for rain that afternoon. Well some people never gave up trying to master the medium the sidewalk chalk. June 7-8 Larimer Square will transform into a gallery of chalk masterpieces with the 6th annual La Piazza dell’Arte. Don't miss your chance to see professional, amateur and student artists create the best, brightest and most colorful pieces of street art.

I left my heart in San Francisco

I have returned from my third vacation this year. I have to put a stop to the madness, I haven't even unpacked my suitcase by the time I need to pack my suitcase again.

We left for San Jose on Wednesday night, got in VERY late and drove to Stocken. Thursday we headed to Lodi to do some wine tasting and visited about 5 wineries. We bought a couple bottles of wine and drank a lot. So beautiful out there in the valley.
Friday we spent the day in San Fran. We went to Pier 39 and saw the seals, then drove down Lombard Street and took a few pictures, did a little shopping in the square and had some great meals along the way.
Saturday was Allison's graduation at Sonoma State, and even though the weather was rainy it was a great afternoon. We ate dinner at the Swiss Hotel and had our party in their wine cellar.

Sunday we took the boat out and motored to downtown Stocken. And then the weekend was over.

If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair...

Honor

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,

It seems to signal to the skies

That blood of heroes never dies

Daily Dose of Denver

Ever looking for the latest happenings, gossip and news about Denver and the metro area? Check out a blog I have contributed to: http://www.everythingweknowaboutdenver.wordpress.com
The blog always has the inside scoop on the city.

Good Friends and Merriment

Meet Kristin last night for some goodness at Hacienda. I haven't seen her in ages, so it was nice to be able to catch up for a good hour about how life is. I love the friendships that flow so easily, where you can just pick up from the last story and continue on.

Busy busy at work, but I must admit I do enjoy it all. Everyday I feel like my mind is a sponge just soaking more in about the inner workings of the online world and marketing.

Ready for a nice long Memorial Day weekend.

Quote of the Day

Sean V. in my office attended the Yeti Tribe Gathering 2008 this past weekend with Pete (another guy in my office). I was asking Sean how it went and he was talking all about the camping, beer, and riding. Then I asked if there were any chicks, or just dudes riding. His response "Yeah, but they were all taken either by their bikes or their boyfriends." So, I guess no love at Yeti fest.

Don't be deceived

Where is she really from?

Another off the wall video brought to my attention by Very Short List.

Monday Morning

It is amazing how still the world is at the wee early hour of 5 AM. This morning I woke early so I could get into work and make some headway on a few outstanding projects. It was so quite as I was getting ready, and even more quite when I was standing at the train station - the highway was quite, the sun just breaking. Nice way to start the week, a calm hopefully that won't break into a storm.

This weekend was a nice break too. Jason was out of town in Nashville for a conference, so I spent the majority of the time with my parents. My mom and scrapbooked, and I'm slowly getting caught up on photos from the past year. Saturday I got my haircut, did a little shopping (in the errand fashion) and stopped by a good friend's graduation party.

Gearing up for another graduation this weekend and hopefully some more R&R. Should be a quick week.

A Little Neglected

I feel like the blog is beginning to feel a little lonely and left out. I struggle some days to think of creative and witty posts to bring enlightenment and joy to the few people who may read this.

I have a special place in my heart for cards, stationary, paper goods, printed press, and good old mail arriving in the box, or being sent off to the far ends of the earth where various friends reside. I sometimes wish it were still the days when people would leave calling cards at their friend's home, or drop long loving letters in the mail to mates. I think maybe because those letters are things that are treasured. I save all my notes, letters, cards and such in little boxes - some of those notes bring tears of both happiness and days of sorrow, they are keepsakes from my closest buddies and those of faded friendships.

Anyway, enough...in the quest of finding fun new cards, I highly recommend visiting Etsy for all things handmade and great! Check out Lavish Design Studio while you are at it for some very fun cards and fresh ideas.

Warp Speed

This weekend felt fulfilling. I don't know if it was a combination of family time and time outside or what?
Friday started off with pizza at Old C's. Jason enjoyed their new flights of beer, while I on the other hand enjoyed eating the cherries out of my Shirley Temple.
Saturday I had been craving to get out and get my patio cleaned up with some new flowers planted. We headed to Wal-Mart, where I picked up a few flowers. Then we wanted to go to the Cherry Creek Farmers market, but the wind was blowing so hard and the rain was starting to spit we decided to just skip it and drive North. We stopped at Costco looking for flowers, and instead ended up leaving with 4 pounds of strawberries and two books. We then headed to Sears Grand and I LOVED their flowers. The had great flowers, strong flowers, flowers that looked like they had been on steroids for the past month. Got a couple more things there. Then headed to lunch at Famous Dave's and I just love their side salad and corn bread muffins - it was great. Then finally made a stop at Home Depot where I found a pretty hanging basket for mom and one for myself. Lastly stopped at DaveCo, the largest liquor store in the world to pick up a couple things with a gift card we had. In the afternoon I battled the hail to get my flower boxes planted.
Sunday was all about my Mom. I headed over there early, made some caprese salad for lunch and some strawberry angel food cake for a snack, did a little scrapbooking and then cooked a great dinner with her and my father. The evening was spent picking up my house and watching a little TV while doing laundry.

Tonight I must not forget to bring all my newly potted plants inside as tomorrow is supposed to bring snow and cold temps to the city. Snow in May? Really, can't it be summer already?

Have a Laugh

I am not trying to make a political statement with this post, but this morning Very Short List had a very funny link to a blog posting all things younger than John McCain.

Some of the things that are included on this partisan site just cracked me up - especially the choice in images.

Have a laugh and then get back to work.

Plant me some Herbs

PS - This weekend in my many shopping adventures, I found this beauty.... I plan to plant some herb seeds tonight and see what grows!

Weekend Update Report

Change the World, Start at Home. Project Green Streets was so much fun on Friday. We planted a couple dozen trees, picked up some trash and helped make the Curtis Park and Park Avenue neighborhood beautiful. I took a whole slew of pictures, here is just a sneak peek:
We had a couple people ask why we were planting trees, and they were so happy that we were paying attention to their streets.

Friday night Jason cooked me a great dinner while I cleaned up the house some. Then we ran a couple errands and I got a couple new spring shirts.

Saturday we went up to Flatirons Mall and did some more shopping, three hours of shopping and the only thing I bought was a new lunch bag from Pottery Barn - I couldn't find a single pair of pants or any tops that I couldn't live without. We also had lunch at Hot Dog on a Stick, which I had never had before, but it was so good! Best corndog of my life - plus they even have veggie corn dogs - too cool. Saturday afternoon I watched 27 dresses, which I though was entertaining, but not as great as I hoped it would be. Then for dinner we headed to the new-ish Bonefish Grill over in the Tech Center. I had never been there before, but it was fab. I had the best salad, wine, bread, shrimp, it was so tasty.

Sunday I headed to my parents house to drop off my recycling and to go shopping with my mom for a dress for a graduation we are going to, but I couldn't find a dress that didn't make me look like I was a "soccer mom" or a "tween."

Now back to Monday. I'm heading out early today for a doctor appointment and then will be working from home in the afternoon for about 2 hours.

Change the World, Start at Home

The office is closed tomorrow as we help Denver work toward hitting the effort of planting 1 million trees in Denver. We will be Curtis Park area with Green Streets and HGTV! Check it out here. I'll make sure to take some photos and provide a full report on how the volunteer process goes, and most of all if we make it on TV.
