Let's Get this Party Started

I have tomorrow off from work. Can't wait for a three-day weekend!

The wedding check-list is actually seeing some progress. We booked the venue, booked the photographer, set the date for our engagement photos, are meeting with the rental company tomorrow, and will be doing more dress shopping tomorrow too. I finished the design of the save the dates last night - now just need to print them. Things are taking shape. We also decided on our wedding favors, but I won't post about that just yet. You can wait and see when I finally get around to that DIY project.

Tonight I'm off to see Eric Hutchinson, who if you remember reading we saw at the Mile High Music Festival and loved.... think he plays weddings? We are still looking at what we want to do for music.

Day 2 in Detail

Again another early start to day 2 of the Mile High Music Festival. We started the day at the main stage to see Brett Dennen, who was pretty impressive (but looked nothing like I thought he would). I made it over to see Ingrid, but only stayed for 2 songs - I was ready to grab some lunch, and after standing and walking all day the day before my feets were tired.

Hung out and say some of OneRepublic, then trekked over to see Colbie, and then back to the main stage to check out Rodrigo y Gabriela - which I really enjoyed! We hung out and watch all of John Mayer and then caught all of Dave Matthews Band before heading home and closing out the weekend with a much needed restful night of sleep.

All said, the weekend was a great success. I had a blast at the shows, saw some great music and fell in love with some great new artists. I can't wait for next year's festival and to see who will be coming to town for a festival that I am sure will be even bigger and better.

Day 1 in Detail

So you can see from the schedule above, day one had a lot in store for us music buffs. We got to sporting goods park at about 11:00-ish. We tried to bring our lunch with us, and couldn't get it in the gates, so good thing we have connections in the right places! A friend made sure we were well compensated for not being able to bring our lunch it.

We started the day at Eric Hutchinson, who I had been really excited to see. He certainly lived up to the expectations I had for him! He was great, and I can't wait for him to come to town again.

Next we headed to Newton Faulkner, who Jason thought was fab. I enjoyed him, but left his set early to head to the merch booth.

We made our way to Gavin DeGraw and really enjoyed him as well. Jason Mraz was our 3:00 PM show, and by this point we were all HOT and sun burnt. Lauren was so sun burnt that a strange man (who claimed to be a doctor) was applying sun screen to her back while we sat in the bleachers for the show.

For most of Citizen Cope's set I hung in the tented area enjoying a ice cold bottle of water and tried to muster my energy to return for the evening.

We caught some of O.A.R. beforing checking out Michael Franti & Spearhead. Franti was fantastic and I'm for sure hoping to check them next summer at Red Rocks.

We closed the night with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, who I thought again were great. I wasn't sure what I would have thought of them, since I grew up with my parents listening to their music, and was not the biggets fan as a child. But, they put on a great, high energy live act.

Getting out of the venue was a breeze. We were right on the highway after getting out of the parking lot, no traffic in site!

Mile High Tunes

Get your ears ready for all the sounds pounding this weekend at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Mile High Music Festival is finally here.

Just going through the line-up making up my mind who I am going to see, and who I have to miss because of line-up conflicts.

Keep your fingers crossed for the perfect weather and slight breeze to keep us cool. Pray for no sun burns, but plenty of fun times.

I'm especially excited for our new fav: Eric Hutchinson!

A Seattle Kind of Day

Seems spring is a long way off. This morning the weather is again rainy - on the verge of possibly snowing should the temp drop any. I wore a pair of flip-flops as I drove in this morning (had to be in way to early to think about trying to make it to the train station before 6 AM!

It was a great weekend. Friday night, a bunch of us girls went to the concert that I had mentioned in previous posts. Before dinner we dined at Tommy's Thai. It was such good food - although I will say that the green tea ice cream left more to be desired (even though I ate my own scoop and then ate Megan's scoop - I had a tea buzz going by the time the concert started). I loved Meiko! Who started the show off. Even bought her CD off of itunes this weekend, it was only $5.99! The concert went really late, and I must say the only down side to the show was Jim Bianco. I don't really know what he was trying to accomplish on stage, he had a freak like, creepy nature thing going on, and insisted on throwing glitter several times during his performances.
Here is a picture of all of girls - except Brooke who was standing on the far left of the picture and the guy taking it accidentally cut her out:Saturday, I slept in until 9AM which is a rare thing for me. Then ran several errands. In the late afternoon I met up with Courtney, a high school friend, and we went for mani-pedis. The mani was pretty, uh, bad, but the pedi was great. Then we grabbed some dinner and basically caught up. She will be headed to Washington state in a few months to begin her career in law. She is a smart cookie and I always enjoy chatting with her. I am so thankful for the friendship I forged with her as a result of so many of life's rocky road.

Sunday I woke early, and ran to Walmart to pick up a couple things I needed. Then came home, cleaned house some, took a nice nap, and then cooked dinner, and relaxed the rest of the evening.

Of course Sunday rolls into Monday and here I am trying to get everything for the week of reporting taken care of. The early mornings in my office are so nice as the office is silent and still. Here is to hoping I can get everything crossed off the list today!

A Gloomy Morning

It is a cloudy April morning - the kind I really love, that make me enjoy life, enjoy my coffee, and just feel warm inside even though it is cold and rainy outside.

Tomorrow night I will be going to The Hotel Cafe Tour featuring Ingrid Michaelson among other great up-and-coming artists at the Bluebird Theatre. I'm really excited. A bunch of us girls from work will be going and grabbing some Thai food before the show.

The weekend is almost here, I can smell it. We will be celebrating Jason's 30th birthday with my parents and grabbing some food. Can't believe 30 is already here for him.

I bought my plane tickets for California yesterday, only $187 to fly round-trip to San Jose! It is for Allison's college graduation, and a little time in San Fran and doing some winery tours.

Uphill both ways, barefoot, in a foot of snow

Tomorrow my office is closed so employees can get together for a fun "snow day". Us marketing mavens are headed up to Copper Mountain for a little snowboarding, skiing and SNOWSHOEING! I have never been snowshoeing and am very excited to try something new with some of the girls from my office. I will hopefully post a picture or two over the weekend of the snow adventure.

PS - Jason told me last night that A Fine Frenzy is coming to the Bluebird Theatre at the end of March. That should be a great concert. Crazy finding out about concert news from other people now!

Soundtrack of your life

Jason and I went and saw James Blunt and Sara Bareilles last night at the Ogden Theatre. Lauren and Christy were also there to hear Sara's amazing vocals, as Lauren's 3-song Select A Set was played on KBCO last week and her prize was tickets to the sold-out concert.

You always run into strange characters at concerts: those that have had too much to drink, those that seem a little out of place, those who know every single detail about the artist, etc. Last night we stood next to a chatty man who either was following the Hollywood fad of talking with a British accent, or had a really crappy honest British accent. This guy had NO CLUE who Sara Bareilles is... and was shocked that Lauren and Christy were happily singing along to the music we listen to on repeat all day (sorry office mates, but is the best CD I've heard in a long time - every song rocks). For those who don't know Sara, check out her myspace page and pick up her CD ASAP.

Happiness was never mine before…

Friday night I came together with just over 500 fellow fans of The Fray for an intimate show at the Bluebird Theatre. They played nothing but new songs, some not yet complete with only a melody and some scattered lyrics. For only $10 a concert ticket, the price could not be beat. This week The Fray are returning to the studio to record an album due out this fall. I will admit I'm a little late in joining the die-hard locals who discovered this gem of a band, but after dancing in the pouring rain as Isaac serenaded the crowd with "You are my sunshine" at Red Rocks last summer I was music-struck.

Enjoy a little peak at what the 3 Bluebird shows held from someone who bravely recorded in a show that strictly prohibited any recording or photography.
