Weekend Update Report

Change the World, Start at Home. Project Green Streets was so much fun on Friday. We planted a couple dozen trees, picked up some trash and helped make the Curtis Park and Park Avenue neighborhood beautiful. I took a whole slew of pictures, here is just a sneak peek:
We had a couple people ask why we were planting trees, and they were so happy that we were paying attention to their streets.

Friday night Jason cooked me a great dinner while I cleaned up the house some. Then we ran a couple errands and I got a couple new spring shirts.

Saturday we went up to Flatirons Mall and did some more shopping, three hours of shopping and the only thing I bought was a new lunch bag from Pottery Barn - I couldn't find a single pair of pants or any tops that I couldn't live without. We also had lunch at Hot Dog on a Stick, which I had never had before, but it was so good! Best corndog of my life - plus they even have veggie corn dogs - too cool. Saturday afternoon I watched 27 dresses, which I though was entertaining, but not as great as I hoped it would be. Then for dinner we headed to the new-ish Bonefish Grill over in the Tech Center. I had never been there before, but it was fab. I had the best salad, wine, bread, shrimp, it was so tasty.

Sunday I headed to my parents house to drop off my recycling and to go shopping with my mom for a dress for a graduation we are going to, but I couldn't find a dress that didn't make me look like I was a "soccer mom" or a "tween."

Now back to Monday. I'm heading out early today for a doctor appointment and then will be working from home in the afternoon for about 2 hours.

Change the World, Start at Home

The office is closed tomorrow as we help Denver work toward hitting the effort of planting 1 million trees in Denver. We will be Curtis Park area with Green Streets and HGTV! Check it out here. I'll make sure to take some photos and provide a full report on how the volunteer process goes, and most of all if we make it on TV.

Earth Hour

In attempt to be greener, I have mentioned I receive the Ideal Bite e-newsletter with helpful (sometimes crazy) tips. Today it highlighted Earth Hour - check it out and see if you want to make the pledge to turn off the lights, not drive, etc. during Earth Hour.

It's Not That Easy Being Green

For New Year's my mother vowed to make herself a bit greener in 2008. I'm not talking the lovely shade you turn while leaning over the side of a ship swaying in a stormy sea, or the pantone one's thumb turns after picking weeds all day - I'm referring to easing your footprint on the wide world around us. I suppose the apple doesn't fall far from the tree because I'm slowly trying to become more green too.

I never made a conscious decision to take mass transit, but I commute everyday to downtown Denver to get to work. By the time I factor in parking and the gas it takes to drive 20 miles each way it just made economic sense to take the light rail for only $6 roundtrip. Every day I see the same faces on the train, and every day on the ride home I see the traffic and feel thankful that I can sit back and enjoy the ride reading my latest book.

I have also been looking for great reusable grocery bags that have a little style to them. I found some great Envirosax bags on Delight.com and Kayla gave me a great bag she found at The Container Store. So far I've spared the dump of more than 20 plastic grocery bags with
my trendy reusable bags.

In my searches for green living I have stumbled upon some great sites/emails that I would recommend for anyone in search of a little green in their lives:

Maybe Kermit the Frog had it right, but why not try.
